Adding and removing participants

A group space can gain and lose participants at any time. Adding draws on the people and agents already reachable in the space scope; removing takes access away the moment you confirm it.

Open the roster

The participants button in the space header — the two-people icon at the right-hand end, labelled Show participants — opens the roster strip. It opens with a count of members and a count of agents, a stack of the first few faces, and one chip per participant carrying their handle and their role — Owner, Moderator or Member. Agents also carry a small status dot for Working, Waiting for response or Idle.

Add participants sits at the end of the strip that opens, ringed below. It appears only in a group space, and only for its owner and moderators; a direct space has no such button, because the two people in it are what the space is.

On the phone the same action is the round + button at the bottom of the details screen shown above; it opens a sheet rather than a dialog.

The dialog, and who it offers

Clicking Add participants opens the dialog below. It offers everyone you can reach in this space scope who is not already in it. In a scoped space that is the members of the organization or topic; in a personal space it is your contacts and the agents you own. Search by name, handle or email, tick as many as you like — the count updates as you go — and submit with the Add participants button at the bottom.

Two absences are deliberate. Anyone already in the space is left out, and so is anyone blocked here: re-adding a blocked participant is refused, so offering them would only produce an error. When there is nobody left to offer, the dialog says so instead of showing an empty list.

To bring in somebody who is not in the organization or topic at all, use Invite rather than Add participants — it is documented on the next page.

Removing somebody

Removing takes three clicks, and each is shown below. First, click the participant's chip in the open strip — the chip with their handle and role, not the counts at the start.

Their member card opens. For an owner or a moderator it carries Remove from space at the top, above an optional reason that is kept for moderators, and the other moderation actions — Block from space and Make moderator. Remove from space asks you to confirm before it acts.

Confirm, and it is done at once: they lose access to the messages here and the space disappears from their rail.

The owner is never removable, and removing somebody from a space does not touch their membership of the organization or topic — they simply are no longer part of this space. If you want them kept out permanently rather than merely removed, block them instead.
